Who is a Candidate?
Anyone
who experiences dizziness. Typically, many causes of dizziness are self-limited
and resolve within a few weeks. The Dizzy Clinic seeks to help those in whom
symptoms persist, or in whom symptoms have been severe or potentially life endangering.
Evaluations
These are conducted by Dr.Tony Breuer, a specialist in the area. East Carolina
Neurology, where the Dizzy Clinic is located, is equipped with the tools to sort
out the problems. These tools, not needed in all patients, include Electronystagmography
(ENG), Videonystagmography (VNG), and Autorotation Testing (VAT) to evaluate
central and peripheral causes of dizziness. These modalities are in addition
to MRI, MRA, CT, X-ray, Carotid Doppler, EMG, EEG, and evoked potential capabilities.
Treatment
Treatment varies from patient to patient and may range from performing a curative
modified Epley maneuver to a course of vestibular rehabilitative therapy across
the street at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Frequently, various contributing
causes are treated simultaneously, with significant amelioration of symptoms.
